Features walnut veneer and ormolu (gilt metal) mounts, and decorative marquetry inlay. 
Design includes a single glazed door that opens to a shelved interior,  lined with velvet. 
Historically used to display small decorative items in the narrow space between windows (the "pier"). 
Comes with original key and toughened glass
